I always enjoyed Glen's knowledge, insight, and contributions to the ham radio community, and I will certainly miss all of those things. @WENZOOKMIZEREK I will have your family in my prayers for peace and comfort.
So very sorry to hear of Glen's passing and my sincere condolences to the family. The ham community and the world lost another good person. 73 and God speed Glen. Bill - K5MIL
SO sorry to hear . I've read many of Glen's writings. He will be missed. 73s Glen. May you be in paradise in that great hamshack in the sky.
Wendy, I am sorry for your loss. I communicated with your dad on QRZ.COM many times over the years and also on email when I was still working and needed advice on setting up a repeater for a government agency I was working for. His knowledge was helpful. I only worked him one time on the 40 meter band. You do not need an amateur license to check in to this site. If and when you do get a license, you can apply for his call sign. It would be nice to hear it on the air again. Tom WA4ILH New Braunfels, TX
K9STH (Glen) had a wealth of knowledge and information was shared willingly here and on other ham forums. He was especially smart with repairing and offering tips on collins gear. a search of his callsign will reveal hundreds of helpful posts with a wealth of technical knowledge. very sad. From his obit: An engineering mind meant a life long passion for learning. A profoundly gifted man, there wasn't much he couldn't accomplish. He had an ongoing newspaper column for many years, cross country runner in college, softball coach, catcher when he played softball, talented musician who played trumpet and cornet and loved participating in marching band growing up, photography was a passion, and he also was a talented singer, which came in handy for entertaining his three daughters on family road trips. The core of his engineering brain was his mechanical aptitude. He could fix anything. As a ham radio operator of 60 years, he knew radios backwards and forwards and was an expert in repairing and restoring antique radios. Condolences to friends and family.
I have printed piles of paper in the past six or seven years, but Glen's material always seems to come to the top of the pile quite often, especially his Heathkit material.
Sad news and he will be missed. Glen and I worked for the same company in different cities and had many conversations both here and offline about our experiences. Pheel
I will really miss Glen's helpful posts, insights and his frequent stories that I have been reading on and off for the last 19 years. Glen helped countless hams over the years on this site, he always had good stories and he shared so many insights and knowledge. Rest in Peace, Glen.
Hi Everyone. I tried to post this as a new thread, but it said I do not have privileges, so hopefully you all see it. If someone would like to post as a new post I would appreciate that. I know it would mean a lot to my mom if you feel inclined to write a note or whatnot on the memorial site. Thank you. The family of Glen Zook thanks you for your kind thoughts regarding their loss. Due to the pandemic, we have chosen not to hold a service. Instead, we are celebrating Glen’s life on a memorial website. Please consider sharing your thoughts, memories and photos of Glen here. The family would very much appreciate it to help them through this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the American Heart Association in Glen's name. Glen lived with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) and that is what ultimately took his life.
