    There is no such thing as a piece of gear as complex as an amp, or more complex than maybe a claw hammer, that "does not fail" as in ever. For that matter I'm sure many claw hammers have separated from the shaft or had the shaft break or....

    It is a failure ham radio operators may not have the skills to repair. I cannot recommend an item needing a known repair issue- simple..

    Another Kenwood TL-922 issue reported here on QRZ.

    The "self bias" modification reconfigures the bias switching so that, in the event of a tube grid-cathode short, the cutoff bias source is not shorted. This prevents the 80V bias winding on T2 from being blown open. Jim @W7RY had me add it to the TL-922 schematic that I redrew.
