I don't know, IF Linux becomes more main stream and more people are coaxed into installing things they shouldn't, because of social engineering, then you'll find peoples machines getting infected just as bad as Windows, there are viruses around that can affect Linux, but you have to install them yourself.

In fact, hackers love taking over Linux boxes because they can handle loads much better than Windows, so the person using the hacked machine is less likely to know, whereas, a Windows machine quite often slows down because the infestation is so bad.

I agree on the social aspect. No OS is safe from us. :D

    I do not blame you.

I would hope 10 will be better.

Many think I am crazy for using XP with no MS support.

I support the OS that I use, and do not need help from MS to hose it.

I work on IBM's AS400/Power Systems. In over 20 years, there's never been a documented incident of a virus in their O/S. It is possible to deposit a virus in the non-system object file system, but the O/S is locked-down tighter than Obama's personal history.

I wouldn't... I've had to provide support to Linux users.
