    Dr. Paul Rutland Hinrichs, PhD, 89, of Paducah, KY, formerly of Oklahoma City, OK, passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018. Dr. Hinrichs was hired by Rockwell International Missile Division as Chief Scientist and Engineer in 1978. While there he developed the laser guided Hellfire Missile, which was the principal armament for the Apache Helicopter.

    Obituary for Dr. Paul R. Hinrichs

    Paul Rutland Hinrichs, 89, of Paducah, Kentucky, formerly of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away at 6:59 P.M. Thursday May 17, 2018, at Superior Care Home and Rehabilitation Center.

    Paul was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 17, 1928 to Fred and Olive Hinrichs. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, and graduated with honors from Oklahoma University in 1963. At E- Systems in Dallas, Texas, he led a team of engineers who developed the guidance system for the cruise missile. Paul was hired by Rockwell International Missile Division as Chief Scientist and Engineer in 1978. While there he developed the laser guided Hellfire Missile, which was the principle armament for the Apache Helicopter. He was a member of Lone Oak First Baptist Church, an amateur Hamm Radio operator, collected antiques, and loved to play bridge and go dancing.

    Dr. Hinrichs is survived by his daughter, Lisa Skipworth (Steve), of Paducah; his sister, Ilona Stone, of Tucson, Arizona; his grandsons, William James “Trey” Swacker (Kim Kiernan), of Simsbury, Connecticut, Jay Paul Swacker (Ruth Anna Swacker), of Lexington; his great grandchildren, Riley, Grady and Ellie Swacker, of Simsbury, Connecticut, Otis and Colette Swacker, of Lexington.

    Dr. Hinrichs was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Betty Jean Robinson Hinrichs and his second wife, Patricia Wantland; his parents, Fredrick William Hinrichs and Olive Pearl Millikan Hinrichs; his brother, Fred William Hinrichs, Jr.

    A memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Paducah, with Rev. Jeff Wallace officiating.

    Visitation will be held Sunday at the funeral home from 1:00-3:00 P.M.
