kk5ric writes "I am sorry to report that we lost one of our Ruidoso, NM
Hams yesterday (Friday) Dr. Leland L Fellows Sr, K5MDW.

Lee was a retired MD, who has lived in this area of New Mexico all his life. He was a member of our local ARES / RACES Teams and had recently passed his Extra Class license.

He died of complications from Leukemia, that started when he was sixteen and exposed to one of the first Atomic blasts. The cloud of radiation, moved over to the mountains East where Lee was helping build a cabin near the top, he was exposed to the radiation from the cloud, that moved on East.

Most of the local Ruidoso hams were not aware that Lee was fighting his final battle with atomic fallout. He was born in Feb. 1929. Services will be held in Ruidoso Wednesday. Lee will be missed by many of Ruidoso citizens and by all his ham radio friends.
