This is an incredibly newbie question, but I am new to HF so I need some help. I am familiar with R-S signal reports, e.g. 5-9. However, there is a CQ contest going on today where people are appending additional numbers, like 5-9-x-y where x and y are numbers. What do the numbers x and y represent? How to give a full report to someone calling CQ in a contest?

    Thank you.

Each contest has its own exchange. See the WA7BNM Contest Calendar ( for details. I like that it includes ALL contests, and the format they use is the same for every contest.

In the case of the current CQ Worldwide DX Contest, it's RS signal report and CQ Zone (link).
