I am a Mac user and whilst I arrange some antenna by the radio dedicated QTH I'd like to listen to something while on the go and as such I am thinking of an SDR dongle/box to match with a MacBookAir as to be able to receive both HF and VHF including aero band in AM and marine band in the upper VHF.

Dunno what else these things can do nor which is the necessary budget to start with without the need to keep adding cables, dongles, filters etc

    Any hint welcome

The latest GQRX supports the spyserver protocol, and CubicSDR supports SoapySDR, making using other people's SDRs via the internet possible. You can poke around without spending any money as long as you have the internet bandwidth.

There isn't a whole lot out there for OS X.
