    Does the coil portion of antenna need to be adove the vehicle body?

    Have to? No. Better to? Yes. Best to have all of the antenna above the body? Yes.

    The most important thing is all a grounding and strapping you really need to do/ to make the antenna work effectively

    I have mine above the bed of my pick up truck. Always better to keep the antenna above the body of the vehicle you are driving if at all possible. Yes, properly have the antenna grounded to the vehicle. If it's a pick up truck, make sure all body assemblies are grounded to the frame using heavy duty grounding wire. 73
