    This raises a conundrum - given that "opposites attract" between two magnets, isn't it really the South pole of a compass (a magnet) which points North?

    So, if one wanted to know which pole of another unknown magnet was the North pole, one must get which "pole" of the compass to point at the unknown magnet?

    it was amazing! I was able to work Antarctica long path on 2 meters with 4 watts AM and a coat hanger.

    The pole on a magnet which seeks the earth’s North Pole is defined as the magnet’s “north pole”. So the earth’magnetic North Pole is actually south polarity.
