For all you fans of VLF, and those who might want to have your first attempt at listening, SAQ in Sweden, the world's last fully-functioning Alexanderson alternator, will celebrate it's exact 100th year of operation on December 01st. Transmissions, as usual, will be made for about 30 minutes at 17.2kHz. Reception is typically by active loop antennas and a SDR unit. My standard, affordable recommendation is a WellGood loop (https://www.george-smart.co.uk/projects/wellgood-loop/wellgood-loop-history/) and a RG213-based coax loop. Whilst a standard 3m circumference loop can work, my experience is that a much larger loop makes for a much stronger received signal; I use 17m circumference, slung in trees or a hedge, the shape is unimportant but do align the vertical plane with the transmitter. My own SDR is a SDRPlay RSP1a; others are available. You have a couple of weeks to prepare!
Please note that tuning and the 'VVV de SAQ' by punched tape sender will appear from 09:30UTC until the main message at 10:00UTC Thanks.
