    Rudolph A. Cartier, 98, of Manchester, died peacefully on November 17, 2017 at Maple Leaf Health Care Center after a period of declining health.

    He was born in Manchester on May 20, 1919 to Arthur and Dorilla (Heroux) Cartier. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester.

    During World War II he served in the U.S. Army and was the recipient of the Bronze Star.

    Rudolph worked in Manchester at Amoskeag Mills, Pandora, Manchester Knitted Fashions and Waumbec Mills where he retired as a plant engineer. In retirement, he volunteered with the Caregivers in Manchester for many years.

    He was an avid pilot and ham radio operator. He was also a member of American Legion Post 79 in Manchester.

    He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Rita (Welch) Cartier in 1982 and by four siblings, Lionel Cartier, Marcel Cartier, William Cartier and Claire Audet.

    The family includes four sons, Francis Cartier and his wife, Gwen, of San Destin, FL, Les Cartier and his wife, Diane, of Laconia, Rudy Cartier Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Candia, and William Cartier and his wife, Charlene, of Deerfield; seven grandchildren, Brenda Cartier, Cynthia Cartier, Frank Cartier, Marcus Cartier, Kimberly Dome, R. Andrew Cartier III and Joseph Cartier; six great grandchildren, Craig Cartier, Dylan Cartier, Danielle Cartier, Andrew Cartier, Beatrice Cartier and Gilbert Cartier; and several nieces and nephews.

    SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A cemetery committal service with military honors will take place at a later date.
