RRF-Seismograph picks up early Perseids Meteor Shower starting at 14:00 UTC

    Hi Everybody;

    As August comes around, the famous Perseid Meteors start to cross path with earth. We have encountered the first 7 individual meteor strikes of this season here at the Pacific North West! The first strike started at about 2019-08-02 14:00 UTC and lasted for 4 h increasing the short wave background noise before creating a spike indicating that it had burned up in to the atmosphere.

    Since this is only the beginning we hope we will see more of these entry spikes and the propagation they create. The Perseid Meteors peak in mid August so there is plenty of time to work scatter...

    Besides VHF, the meteor trails also have the capability to bounce of HF. In this case the 20 m band, indicated by the slight widening of the magenta trace in the plot below
