I've no doubt many here are at leaast aware of the Royal Flying Doctors Serive in Oz.

There is more on the web should you care to dig deeper on yur own.

While the airplane made the service possible, the radios allowed the service to actually work....and save lives

.The radios were also use for a rudimentary Distance Learning program for remote kiddos....

    enjoy

Interestingly, back in 1968, the Flying Doctor Base station at Wyndham WA (vk6), in the State's tropical North, wasn't run by the WA division, but by the Victorian division.

The explanation from Victoria (vk3) was that, as they didn't really have an "outback" in that State,
they would finance facilities in other States.
I don't know if they would be as generous today!
