This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Route 66 on the Air special event. This year, there will be 23 stations from Chicago to Santa Monica, including 2 new rover operations that are scheduled to participate. The event begins at 0001Z on September 7th, and ends at 2359Z on September 15th. Phone, CW, and digital will all be used, band plans and additional information at https://w6jbt.org/, as well as at the individual W6* callsigns on QRZ.com

As popular as this event is, I'm surprised it's not posted on the home page here. There will be THOUSANDS of contacts made! Last year, our small team made just over 8,000 contacts alone! Look for W6H from New Mexico. We'll have details posted on how and when to find us at W6H on this site. I hope you work them all! 73, Bill, K8TE, ARRL SM NM

    Couldn't agree more!

13 colonies is just as popular and always seems to get a home page spot so should it be for RT66 OTA! Also the fact being a 25 year anniversary for the RT66 special event makes it even more newsworthy of a home page placement for all to see. If not now, then when???

In 2026, RT66 will be 100 years old since it's inception. Maybe then will the RT66 OTA special event get on the home page...you think?

For what it's worth (since QRZ doesn't deem Route 66 on the Air to be popular enough to feature on the homepage, instead they buried it under "General Announcements", so few will see this), operating on upper sideband at 18166kHz is OUT OF BAND operation, the band ends at 18168kHz, so an upper sideband modulation envelope definitely extends past the band end by at least 1kHz. There were 2 of the RT66 stations operating there, and there were quite a few stations working them out of band.

Propagation has been good, MOST of the Route 66 stations have been active, except that there are currently 2 "no shows" so far up to the 4th day of the event, at least I've never heard them or have seen them spotted on the cluster, and I've been very actively hunting them. As usual, they'll probably show up during the last few hours of the event, the pile-ups will be massive and a total lidfest, so many will be disappointed that they couldn't work all of the stations.

66 is a very popular event. However it gets back to the poster and how they're doing it on QRZ, and working with the moderators.

One of the Arizona operators posted a notice also, it got sent to the "Contests, DXpeditions, QSO Parties, Special Events" section.

This is my 3rd year as a General and my 3rd year working the Route 66 event. It's one of the few that I truly look forward to. This year, I'm surprised about the lack of availability of some of the stations (so far), some not heard here in Florida, some only working digital or CW, some outside of the General portions of the bands and the many searching operators that have been posting on the spotting sites, asking "where are they?" I've been hunting off and on throughout the day and night since the event began and I'm a bit surprised this year. I understand... working conditions, people's hours of availability/home life... It's just many of us strive for the clean sweep.

Thank you all for this great event!
