    All I have worked on 25 , 45 , 55 tube type .
Then is seems from memory - been a while , even the stamped types .
The solid only had 1 size .
Other brands , not so much .

    Rohn 45G uses two sizes

Why? No idea - but they definitely do use two sizes

45g uses "large on the bottom" - "small on the top"

Can't speak for any other tower models

I have a 45G 65' tower that is as I have described - recent experience

Climbing , it's a pain in the ass to deal with multiple size tools , then having to keep multiples of nuts & bolts , etc.
Just seems to be a logistical problem , that could be better , very easily .

So use another brand of tower.

    That's just how Rohn rolls.

No idea why - but they do indeed have different sizes per section for Rohn 45

I do not have much of a choice , it's not a matter of choice .
None on these are mine , they belong to individual hams , clubs , business etc.
I work on what I find , or when others find me , not too many independent tower guys out there , and seems less everyday .

I figure it has to have some engineering idea behind it , and that why the question .
