Robert W. Gutshall, N2AIA SK February 7, 2018 Age 94 Robert W. Gutshall, 94, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania on November 11, 1923, he was the son of Milton and Florence Gutshall. He was an Army veteran proudly serving in World War II. He served in North Africa, Mediterranean, Italy, France, and Germany. He was especially proud to have been part of the 1st wave invasion into Germany and for serving aboard the cruiser USS Augusta. Bob married the love of his life, Eileen Dunlap, in 1947 and after attending college in Philadelphia, they moved to Schenectady to begin his career with General Electric and raise their family. Bob was an engineer working both in television and radio for WRGB and WGY in Schenectady for 35 years, retiring in 1983. Bob held an advanced license as a ham radio operator with the call sign N2AIA. He enjoyed participating in carrier nets and teaching local students interested in amateur radio. Bob spent many summers fishing and boating on Sacandaga Lake with his family, and tending to his beautiful flower gardens. He enjoyed scenic motorcycle trips with friends and family. Bob was an animal lover and enjoyed spending time at his daughter's horse farm. His hobbies included photography, woodworking and building clocks. Bob was an expert baker, cinnamon buns were his specialty. He also loved music, initially playing trombone in an orchestra, and later learning guitar and keyboard. He was predeceased by his wife of more than 60 years, Eileen and his brothers, Arthur and Stanley Gutshall. Bob is survived by his children, Jeffrey Gutshall (Mary) of Bonners Ferry, Idaho and Jacqueline St. Onge (Gary) Ballston Spa; granddaughter, Katie; four great-grandchildren, Evan, Eric, Elizabeth and Emilie of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held at Sweetman Cemetery in the Spring.
