    HK4SPO brought up a similar question in 2006, that provided many different responses, look here:

    IF you want to read another approach, get the article written by W9NUP (Ron Purkey) in the 1999 VHF Communications magazine (3rd Quarter issue) pages 131 through 135. Check with VHF Communications (EU magazine) directly or via local library for copy of article.

    He outlines how the commercial designers perform combining, based on the Myat Engineering E*Star technology. The Myat approach permits any number of odd or even modules (of common design) to be used, making this an way to grow the amplifier to the customer's specific needs.
    Last that I heard, Myat was only selling their E*Star technology to qualified designers/manufacturers --- not for amateur radio usage.

    I would expect Terry, K7FE could provide some additional input on the topic (combining/splitting).
