RFinder - The World Wide Repeater Directory and the BM Hoseline. Point and click talkgroups!

    RFinder
has worked with the DMR network BrandMeister to create even more new usability enhancements.

We have worked with Wijnand PD0MZ, creator of the BM Hoseline to bring the Hoseline right into RFinder as an integrated function...Point and click talkgroups...on the RFinder Android Radios, just touch the talkgroup in the hoseline in RFinder and voila...the radio changes to that talk group! It's like a visual scanner!

In non-RFinder Android Radio devices it shows the talkgroups from the app and has the normal Hoseline last heard function...

RFinder's new Android DMR Radios ( http://www.androiddmr.com ) take advantage of BrandMeister technologies by providing a point and click real-time programming function in the RFinder Android Radio H1, M1 and P1x. There is also a new DMR hotspot function to allow easy point and click programming...this can be seen on RFinder's videos on YouTube... https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=RFinder+DMR .

RFinder is about to release the 2nd generation of RFinder Android Radios. We are taking pre-orders at http://androiddmr.com .

RFinder is the world's largest repeater directory which has over 60.000 repeaters in over 170 countries. Annual ~$9.99US subscription to RFinder provides access to repeater data through its collections of Apps on Android and iPhone, RadioBuddy on iPhone, web, RT Systems and CHIRP radio programmers. RFinder's new feature of repeater routing ( http://routes.rfinder.net ) allows finding of repeaters over routes worldwide. One subscription, access to repeater data worldwide, from any computing device on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iPhone and popular GPS systems. Real-time radio programming on Android and iPhone is provided by the open source RFinderPi, which is based on the Raspberry Pi. RFinder is tightly integrated with EchoLink both on Android and iPhone, providing one-click connection to repeaters worldwide from the directory! Now one click goes into the radio with RFinder Android Radios...visit http://androiddmr.com .

"We are excited to bring visual scanning to DMR," says Bob Greenberg, W2CYK, creator of RFinder. "BrandMeister's Hoseline is a great tool to see activity across the BrandMeister DMR network. We continue to find ways of enhancing RFinder Android Radios by mashing up new technologies."

And this is truly Ham Radio how? Looks more like a group of internet chat groups. I can get that using no radio at all.

    Hey Tom...

Not quite what you are thinking...on BrandMeister DMR, talk groups are akin to reflectors on IRLP. Entry and exit point is radio.

DMR is three dimensional. frequencies across the band but also each frequency can have access to a variety of Talk Groups...in fact it can handle 2 at a time.

The Hoseline in this feature is like a visual scanner...you can watch the activity on the talkgroups and when you see someone you want to work, just touch the talkgroup number and the transciever switches to that TG...just key up and go...

The paradigms in digital radio are different then many hams are used to...but its really fun...like a band opening in all directions 24x7...

    Bob :)

I disagree with you Bob. Just because you are keying a DMR radio does not mean it is true ham radio. You are using the internet to replace the typical radio wave between 2 points. If you do not think that is true then unplug that ethernet cable from the back of your DMR repeater and see who you can contact then. DMR (and all other digital schemes) is nothing but a Voice over IP solution. That is not ham radio.

I know...I had the same feeling about people connecting via EL computer<->computer....however, this is a radio entry point...much like IRLP...repeaters have been linked via phone lines for decades...did that mean that people weren't using radio if they spoke across linked repeaters? I think they were using radio...

However, thankfully Amateur Radio is very diverse and there is no shortage of stuff to do and how to do it...so I say, to each his own...All I know is digital radio is fun...I get to work all kinds of groovy folks from every corner...and it's probably got the most development of any mode right now...by some really smart people having fun being radio experimenters...isn't that what its all about?

    Peace...
    Bob
