Revolvermaps is now gone [official thread]

I’ve heard of it but it’s completely useless to me and many others.

 

Eh...don't be too quick to say that...

Many a long, long year ago, young me was sitting in a college classroom when the professor began going on about Smtih Charts. I turned to my buddy and said (too loudly, alas), "We'll never use this crap!"

Said professor looked me straight in the eye and pronounced, "This 'crap' will save your young ass one day, young man."

And it did.

 

Never heard of it, OM.

However, if you just want to show your contacts on a map by reading in an adif, plenty of tools to do that. Beginning with this excellent website. We used it at our recent special event here to show visitors the locations of contacts we made:

The tech part is interesting to me but overwhelming if I’m being honest. I can’t understand or retain what I’m looking at, like a smith chart. Emphasis on retain. I just don’t care enough.

I mainly spoke up because a new (or any) ham doesn’t need to feel ashamed for what they don’t know. If we want to keep this antiquated hobby alive we need a constant supply of new hams as SK pass.

No, it shouldn't. but as with young me, it's good to have someone point out that they need to learn something that can potentially help them--a lot.

Yep. I occasionally have a good idea, and when we were operating W4P at the Alabama Pecan Festival and I saw we had an extra monitor, I decided we'd use it to show the public the stations we were working. Not automatic like HAMRS, but it was easy enough to save an adif file every once in a while and read it into the website. The public loved it.

 

RevolverMaps has shut down.

Hi Victor, I agree it is a pitty that they didn't give us as users a heads up. I had more than 100.000+ diffrent look up on my Globe from all over the world. So indeed we are going to miss it for sure.
