You are a better man than I . Used to get paid to work on R-390s (USAF radio maint) . The gearing alone is enough to drive me nutz. Hated them....

have to say that the IF unit was more difficult from the RF unit. The RF is a lot of gears, springs, bolts, fasteners etc. If you are taking photos, and read good the manual and the internet help files, it;s not so complicated. The if unit from the other side, there is some capacitors, 10-15 i didnt count them, but they are stiff between other parts. You have to make magicians and broke your fingers to unsold them. And the biggest drawback, all the terminals, ALL are twisted in all the holes they go through. So you cant just heat and pull the part. You have to cut the part, remove it, use de-solder pump to suck the solder, then use some very fine pliers and dentist tools to untwist and remove the piece of wire that its attached on the hole. That was 3 days work, around 5-6 capacitors per day, and then patience ended!!!

Nice professional workmanship! I can handle the electronics, but that gearbox restoration is beyond my pay grade and patience levels!!! Thanks for sharing.
