A customer asked me to look at a R1444/URR 69 radio that lost receive. There appears to be a problem in the preselector front end. The radio can't hear any level signal. Due to the modular nature of the radio it is difficult to trouble shoot. I'm hoping there is a radio tech out there that worked on these.

Thanks, I have the manual. The issue is the radio is modular and none of the assemblies can be power up outside of the radio. I'm hoping there is a comm tech out there that worked on these radios that can give me some advice.

Well, this is going to be a tough one. I told myself I wasn't going to use my R-1444 as a mock up, but it looks like I will have to do just that.
I got into the preselector and found no bad diodes. looks like the switching voltage isn't making the trip, so it may be a poor interconnect between the front panel assembly and the chassis. It looks like someone in the past has had issues with the two D connectors, as there are shim washers and a cardboard shim cut from an egg carton behind the RF D connector. I'll keep you posted! BTW, thanks for the tip on the Yaesu, it was indeed an (obviously) bad electrolytic!

This would have made me crazy. Cardboard shims in a tank, that's interesting.
Good news on the Yaesu. If you ever need help let me know.
