Russell County Amateur Radio Club, Inc. Assists with Walk-A-Thon

On Saturday, April 16th members of the Russell County (VA.) Amateur Radio Club, Inc. (RCARC, Inc.) assisted the local March of Dimes with their annual Walk-A-Thon in downtown Lebanon. The club provided traffic control assistance to the Lebanon Town Police and monitored the route in the event that any of the walk participants needed assistance. RCARC, Inc. club member Jerry Brewer rode along with town police officer Jeff Rife to relay information to county dispatch in case of a medical emergency or traffic accident along the route. Several club members were stationed along the walk route to closely monitor the participants. The club would like to thank March of Dimes coordinator Nikki Hicks and the Lebanon Town Police Department for allowing them to assist with the Walk-A-Thon.

The club is gearing up for a busy spring and summer operating season again this year. Plans are currently underway to conduct a direction finding exercise and our 7th annual Field Day event. Also, the club will be installing a mountaintop repeater system in the Crossroads section of the county this summer. The repeater system will be a great asset to the citizens of the county and surrounding area. It will provide backup communications for the sheriff’s office dispatch and other local and state agencies if the need arises during a disaster.
