I used to drink with the Raytheon Tech Reps back in the very early 70s. At least one Tech Rep would follow the fleet from port to port in the Med. If there was a serious casualty to one of our weapons systems, they would sleep on board. They slept and ate in Officer's Country but they drank with the enlisted Fire Control Techs.

A decade earlier it was the Philco Tech Reps that helped with our early all SS crypto gear, lots of birthing pains but a free Med trip was a bonus, they bunked with the chiefs. Several had their families with them.

We also had Collins reps working out early URC-32 and remote antenna tuner bugs.

In the mid 80's when I was leading a computer system/network engineering team on the Carl Vinson during her shake down cruise I chose to stay with the chiefs, lots more enjoyable than junior ossifers:p:D

Not sure exactly what to think of that. Some people here ought to be just creamy hearing this news.
