"There is something magic about bouncing a signal off of the ionosphere and having someone on the other side of the world respond, Radio is a Science, a Mystery, and a Wonderment".

Radio Amateur Service (or what ever you call it) is a great activity, which after all these years is still fascinating to me.

    According to the late, not-so-great WA3RBQ, I am a boy in a man's hobby.

No, he said "Skid", not "Gummo."

Well, at least he didn't get called the "Space Cowboy." Or "Maurice."

You are right, respect is earned and being old or experienced are not attributes of earning respect, patience and wisdom are. Newbies and kids are not belittling experience, they are belittling what I call EXPERTING. Those who throw their knowledge around so as to make themselves look important, special and better than others, usually by answering a question that has not been asked so they can show offf how important they are.

There is a very simple reason why I have the utmost of respect for people like Karl-Arne, Pete Juliano and Charlie Morris et al, because they have never spoken down to me and have always treated me as an equal, not some dummy who does not know his cathode from his elbow. They earned my respect by questioning and challenging me to think for myself, never once have they done the newbies suck and newbies are stupid dance that some do to make themselves feel special and important.

So, if any oldbies out there are not feeling they are honored and respected by the younger guys, perhaps they should take a good hard look at themselves and ask, Am i acting as to earn the respect of others? The answer is probably no.
