Kevin Stover, AC0H, became a Silent Key on Sunday September 29, 2019. Kevin was my brother, my Elmer, and a dear friend. We argued like brothers do, but shared many common interests, one of which was ham radio. Kevin had struggled with health issues for the last couple of years of his life, and eventually, the diabetes he'd battled for 34 years won. For years, Kevin was an active participant on the QRZ Forums and certainly had strong opinions. Beneath that, offline and in person, he was someone who would give you the shirt off his back. Thanks to the QRZ community for being a place where Kevin would spend his time. He enjoyed reading and posting here, and QRZ was something that brought enjoyment into his life.

Robert Kevin Stover, 59, of Des Moines, IA, is resting under the wings of the Almighty. Kevin passed on to his next life Sunday, September 29, 2019, at his home in Des Moines. Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 14, 2019, at Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown, IA. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 13, 2019, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.

Robert, or Kevin as he liked to be called, was born to Laurence and LaVonne Stover on October 28, 1959, in Huntsville, AL. Kevin spent his childhood living a number of places: Alabama, California, Australia, Florida and St. Louis before his family eventually settled in Marshalltown, where Kevin graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1978. Kevin graduated from Buena Vista University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in May of 1990. In October 2004, Kevin was united in marriage to Dorothy Overton, of Des Moines. They remained married until her passing in February of 2018. At the time of Kevin’s passing, he was recently retired from the Telegen Corporation where he worked in IT.

Kevin was a devoted husband, step-father, uncle, brother and son. He was adored by his nephews and nieces who called him The Good Uncle. Kevin had a personal and abiding faith that carried him, with optimism, through the tough times. He was a strong-willed survivor. 34 years ago, he fought off a condition that nearly took his life. Kevin never lost his fighting spirit nor his tenacity, which were evident in everything that he did. He was active in the amateur radio community with several ham radio clubs in central Iowa under the callsign AC0H. Kevin volunteered his time in public service with these organizations. While at times, he could be fiercely independent and opinionated, Kevin was always devoted, loyal and kind. Kevin expressed his love for others by his actions and his presence. He had a passion for his animals and he loved everyone he held dear. Kevin would be glad to have discussions with anyone who would listen about topics ranging from politics and events of the day to his favorite sports teams. He was a life-long fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Green Bay Packers and the St. Louis Cardinals. The fact that his Cardinals won their division on the day of his passing was his way of having the last word over the Cubs fans that he loved.

Kevin is survived by his parents, Laurence and LaVonne Stover, formerly of Marshalltown, now residing in Plymouth, MI; stepson Dustin Patrick, of Des Moines; his sister, Denise (Stover) and Michael Bryan, of Plymouth, MI; his sister, Michelle (Stover) and John Peterson, of Marshalltown; his brother, Eric and Dawn Stover, of Waverly, IA; and his sister, Kerri Stover and Cyndy Caroll, of Pittsburgh, PA; and Aunt Anita (Deane Adams) Elmore and Uncle Harley Stover, of Conrad, IA; Aunt Jeanne Stover, of Vienna, VA; nephews and nieces: Maj. Matthew and Alexa Bryan, of Huntsville, AL, Laura and Jonathan Silver and Benjamin and Eliana, of South Lyon, MI, Daniel and Deanna Bryan and Dexie, of South Lyon, MI, Nathan Peterson, of Marshalltown, Allison Peterson, of Ankeny, IA, Geoffrey and Cari Stover, of Liverpool, NY, Emily and Samuel Stover, of Waverly. Kevin is also survived by a large extended family and many cousins.

Kevin was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Overton) Stover and by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
