Quad standby refers to the fact that you can have four frequencies displayed (0r in standby) and switch between them. Could be good for a trip where you program in four repeaters along your route or maybe three repeaters and the 2M calling frequency.

I bought one and the radio is a great deal at $80. The audio that comes out that little speaker is amazing.

I have the earlier version the KT8900 without the "D". I agree the audio is great and the radio does what I need it to, though I'm not a big VHF/UHF guy so I don't need much. :)

I read a review on this radio and am interested. My concern is they say its deaf on the 222 mHz band, can anyone confirm or deny this claim?

    It's a dual band radio not a tri band - 136-174Mhz/ 400-480Mhz.
