Jeanne Socrates, VE0JS, who, once her current voyage ends hopefully at the end of August, will have the distinction of being the oldest person to sail solo around the World without touching land or getting any help of any kind while underway. This interview conducted by satellite phone to Jeanne somewhere in the South Pacific near Tahiti. Ham radio has been key to Jeanne’s voyages especially this one. VE0JS shared her ham radio story in this QSO Today. Excellent interview with a very dynamic and motivational person. Jeanne should be an inspiration to all of us. God speed and bon voyage Jeanne and may S/V Nereida carry you safely to your final port!
It’s really an opportunity to communicate with sailing solo station, I also hope that can communicate with her.
I liked the QSO podcast, especially telling how she got into amateur radio in the first place! Check out her QRZ profile page for lots of information. Also, interesting reading her blogs on https://www.svnereida.com/ There are also position links on the right side of her page to show her position. You can even layer the World Satellite Infrared over the map to see nearby storms. Looks like avoiding Hurricane/Tropical Storms Erick and Flossie have slowed down her progress back to Victoria, B.C.
