    Greetings to all:

Can someone explain the process for reporting an SK on QRZ.com to me? Does QRZ.com require any proof of the person dying? Or do they just take someone's 'word' that the ham is SK? Is it relatives of the SK that have to report it, or is it other hams that report it? Are relatives allowed to take over the SK's account? And, are the relatives, or ham friends, that report it allowed to maintain the SK's QRZ page as a 'memorial' to the SK? Does QRZ.com allow the SK's page to remain up until the call is canceled?

Any information on how QRZ handle SK pages would be appreciated?

    Thanks

Probably should just report the SK to the FCC and then when the database is updated, it will flow down to qrz.com and other ham radio lookup sites. As to maintaining a memorial page, that's up to qrz I guess.

I believe there is a 2 year grace period to allow a licensed family member to claim an SK's callsign.

FCC vs QRZ SK page are entirely different things and not connected automatically.

If you just want to report a Silent Key on QRZ, simply post in the "Silent Keys and Friends Remembered" forum with the subject: "W7*** Silent Key" and in the body of the post, just put the pertinent details. IMPORTANT: To prevent pranksters, you'll need to post a link to an official obituary or it's likely your post will be deleted - you can imagine that folks from time to time play mean jokes.

Once the SK post is made, one of the moderators will go into the account and change the status to "Silent Key"

Regarding reporting to FCC, you will need to check with the FCC directly for the proper procedures.

These two actions are not really related. At least not so far as the QRZ page saying "Silent Key"

    Hope this helps

One more question.... Is there a way to search for SKs on QRZ.com?

    Thanks
