Make something. I made this iambic paddle many years ago to fit inside the lid of a portable 20m QRP xcvr that's built into a metal 3x5 file card box. It's constructed entirely from junkbox parts. I used some leaf spring contacts salvaged from a junked Turner desk microphone. The paddle handpieces are made from strips of copperclad perfboard, soldered to the back side of the leaf spring contacts. Cheap 'n easy!

    Here's the transceiver:

And here's how the paddles and cord fit inside the lid:

    Fun stuff!

This is what I've been using for about the last 50 SOTA activations.

Files are here if you want to make one:

Shout out to OK1IAK for the original design, and OK1CDJ for the updated design.

American Morse now offers the Ultimate Porta Paddle. It is an iambic paddle machined out of aluminum and has magnetic return. It's a little pricey compared to making something yourself, but it is nice, with a couple of caveats.

The adjustment screws that come with it stick out slightly from the holes in the case, making it easy to accidentally press them when using it hand-held. So, I replaced the screws that adjust the closing distance with set screws.

I also replaced the return adjustment screws with slightly longer ones that would come closer to the magnet, making the return force much snappier. After that I started loving this little paddle.

When backpacking a whole pound makes a difference. :) Other than that, yes, just bring your desktop paperweight.
