Cool rig! I read a couple of blogs stating that a price of "around $1000" would be a good guess. Uh, nope. I figure $2400 ... If I'm right, it had better "Sherwood" it's way past the "KX3" and others if it's gonna fly off the shelves (IMHO) ... Serious hams want performance, not pretty windoze-style color screens, since we all have cell-phones. :)

Well, that's what they say to gain your trust. Yours and many others. In reality, who really knows the dirty details?

The X5105 is remarkably compact, ATU and proper 12 V lithium battery that lasts for many hrs + antenna analyser. It's a lot of radio for the money.

I have the The X5105 and it fits in my old Tecsun PL-660 pouch perfectly !

Icom could have done a lot better , ditch the big fancy energy sapping screen, make it smaller, proper battery and at least 50 watts. QRP doesn't mean we want to be limited to 5-10 watts all the time .

I bet these will sell well though, a lot of people just can't resist a fancy screen lol.

So about $900 USD sounds about right; almost low enough to sell like hotcakes once it hits the market...

show me another company that will sell you two SDR rigs for a total of 3k that get you on 160-6, 2m, 70cm, 23cm, with bright 30 frames per second waterfalls, good performance, full duplex on the v/u radio, ATU on the hf rig, 100/70/10 watts on the v/u radio, small form factors, no bulky PC needed to run it, etc. 7300 + 9700 is actually an amazing deal.

It looks like a nice rig. It looks like Icom is feeling the pressure from the Chinese radios and is worried about market share.

I enjoy the challenge and skill building that working QRP gives me and my FT-818 serves that purpose well.

I wonder if they made it QRP due to that antenna in the backpack which would be about 6 inches from your head! That sounds like a bad plan at higher frequencies.

Because it's a QRP rig. QRP rigs are in the 5-15W range. 30-50W would require a much larger battery, heatsink, heaver weight, etc. If you want that, buy a 100W rig - there are plenty!

I had lots of fun with my 703, I hope the 705 is a good performer!
