Saw this little article on some of the earliest prank calls:

Anything similar in the world of ham radio? I understand that hams are supposed to be all serious about being on the radio, but I'm sure a few of us have a little sense of mischief.

40m and 80m have several frequencies that could be described as "mischief."

I'm all for a little fun mischief once in a while... but the crap that happens on those cesspits of 80, 40 (and 20!) is not the sort of mischief I want to have anything to do with. Drunks cussing and playing tapes and music, while spewing racist drivel all day and night is just disgusting garbage - nothing fun at all in that crap.

So no, I don't really see a parallel

Good story though... I did do a few "prank calls" as a kid back in the early 1970s

20m is still a band? I hear some of the old timers talking about when the MUF would climb that high, but I'm not sure I believe it. ;)

20-meters was open to Europe and South America yesterday afternoon. Lots of QSB with signals going from almost noise level to over S-9 and back again in a very short period of time.

I once passed "fake traffic" to the Noontime Net .

Rick took it well. Rick is predictably a long haired greybeard .

Certain times of the year you see calls such as 5U4GB RG8X 0A2 5Y3G on the display in digital modes....
