    I am new to amateur radio - only been operating since October - my normal rig is a Ten Tec Omni IV (been having a blast). At a recent hamfest I happened onto a couple of Magnum Minimag 10m/CB radios - I don't know much about them, neither did the ham I got them from. I have little/no interest in the CB - but I find the 10m option kind of interesting. I was going to test one out here in the shack, I have a spare 10m dipole. Does anyone have any experience with these little 25w mobile radios - can I run it off my 10 AMP power supply?

    This should be posted in the Mobile Radio forum, not here.

    Thank you K0BG, that is where I thought this post was entered - that is where I thought this was being posted - my header info shows that's where this is posted!?

    Since this is one of my first posts in the QRZ forums - I'm sure it is operator error!

    Is there a way I can move this - or do I need a moderator to do so?

    25watt / 12 volts = 2 Amps

    P = I * E

    Actually that's not correct. The output is 25 watts, so the input is about 50 watts plus whatever the rest of the circuitry draws. Whatever power supply you use, therefore must be able to supply at least 4 amps on peak, if not more. A safe size? ten amps average!

    Thanks K0BG - that means I can stop shopping for another power supply!
