Today it was back to the site where I took my qsl card background photo ten or twelve years ago- with a 1960's film camera then, today with a digital camera:

It was a balmy and windy day in Ohio- about 82d when I took the photo.

The contrast is significant between the bright aluminum yagis on top, and the rusty steel tower below. o_O

Climbed Mt Le Conte a week and a half ago. Did the Rainbow Falls trail up, and the Bullhead down. Spent about an hour and a half at the top. 9 hours total. The ascent took me exactly 3 hours 35 minutes. About 6.5 miles and 4000' of elevation gain. Probably hiked 16 miles total that day.

Rainbow Falls. The Smokeys have been experiencing a drought. The falls were just a trickle.

The lodge at Le Conte is resupplied by llamas. The white bags on the picnic table is all the trash ready to be packed out.

The trail pictured is called the Boulevard Trail. It runs west roughly 5.3 miles and ties in to the Appalachian Trail.

This is the summit of Le Conte. It is actually in the woods on the way to Myrtle Point. This is the cairn. This is an attempt to raise the elevation of the mountain. You also place a rock on it for good luck.

This is on the way down on the Bullhead Trail. The town you see just left of center above the evergreens is Gatlinburg.
