I really think the members of hosting club(s) should be excluded from winning door prizes. However, they should not have to pay admission if they are actively working the event. Most of the events I attend draw prizes hourly and keep a list of winners with unclaimed prizes until the end. This allows folks to attend talks, go get a bite to eat, etc... without missing winning a prize. At the end, the raffle bucket is emptied, and those still in attendance drop their name tags in the bucket. New names are called rapidly for the unclaimed prizes, and once they are gone, they do the grand prize drawing. And more than once, I've donated a prize back to the club, because who needs yet another Baofeng HT or an ARRL repeaterbook?
K5MGW De, N5LYS ... I was in a similar situation as you are in, except I was the Sgt.-at- Arms in a Pedal Steel Guitar Club. We held a "Steel Guitar Jamboree" each year and would have a Brand New Steel Guitar that the attendees would be eligible to win with their paid admission. Officers and their families, members of the "House Band", etc. were NOT eligible though. Personally, I think that if Club members paid admission to the Ham Fest, then I don't see where that should be a problem. I may be wrong but I am just offering my "2 cents" worth . 73 De, N5LYS
We have like 3 clubs involved with our hamfest, if we did not allow anyone from those clubs to win, we would have a really hard time selling tickets I am afraid. That being said, I never win anything, anywhere. lol
Let's face it... Most prize drawings are LONG after 80%(?) of the people left. What would you think if a club member won vs the 3-10x more than other's who showed up? Ricky... I'm Shocked! Shocked I tell You!
