    It's "Kilo", not "Kilowatt". Also, quit making stuff up, as it totally defeats the purpose of using a phonetic alphabet. I'll give old-timers a break for saying "Able", "Baker", etc. since they were born before airplanes were invented, but saying "Washington Sunshine Zanzibar" is just stupid.

    Thank you for giving us "old-timers" a break.

    We were very worried you might not...
    Now that is settled, shall we discuss your compelling need to criticize others?

    Frankly, I hear the worse made up phonetics from newer hams - especially DSTAR/DMS operators...

    Sec. 97.119 Station identification
    (2) By a phone emission in the English language. Use of a phonetic alphabet as an aid for correct station identification is encouraged;

    There is no "official" phonectic alphabet and there's nothing wrong with kilowatt except for those who may lack the ability to understand that kilowatt is one word not two.

    ^^ that's mainly what I mean. It can be misunderstood as two words.

    see, im an oldtimer, and sometimes my oldy-tyme, wine addled brain mistakenly says "whisky FOX four whiskey" instead of the official "whiskey FOXTROT four whiskey" --- off to assisted living for me!

    Perhaps a better education would help solve the problem.

    I am sure about every ham here and on the air has made up homemade phonetics for their call.

    Do you fault them for that ?

    What is your homemade phonetics for your call ?
