It's a term of endearment. I was thinking about Archie (Bunker) to match your online personality, but I thought you might be offended. ;)

Circa 1945 lightning and of course I still have it.
Photo when I see it next.
I may forgo the 'plex for a handmade iambic as I happen to be a fair machinist.
I had a go at an iambic and keyer combo recently at another shack and felt more comfortable than I did with a straight key or his modern 'plex . Admittedly I was sending pretty much garbage but as he explained iambic method it just seemed to click. Then I went home and tried it. (laughing) I still suck.
I don't really have time to regularly dedicate to my ear or fist at the moment but will soon. I just have to make up my mind which key. Then there is my ear... (laughing again).

...My fist has been mistaken for either QRM and/or QRN simultaneously (still laughing)

Sweet! If it's in good shape there are folks who will buy it.

    It's all about what works....

By "lightning" I presume you mean a Lightning Bug:

and not a 1952 Vincent Black Lightning:

    What the "source" is,
COMMON PRACTICE, what hams have been doing for a LONG time . I have been hearing this from old timers when I was a Novice in 1961 ! Like a TRADITION.
