Paul Stanley Andrews entered into the House of the Lord on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at home with his wife at his side.
He was born January 6, 1926 in Albany, the son of Benjamin and Josephine (Hotaling) Andrews. He graduated from Cobleskill Central School and what is now HVCC. He served his country in World War II as an AETM 2nd Class on the USS Oriskany from 1944 to 1946 and in Korea from 1950 until 1951.
Paul had a long career in broadcasting which began at WOKO radio. He joined WGY/ WRGB as a technician in the early 1950's, at the advent of television. He ended his career as a broadcasting engineer at NYS Network, mentoring many before retiring in 1990. He also used his talents over the years to help maintain the Schenectady County Airport tower radios and approach systems.
He was an avid licensed amateur radio operator, a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) K2EID. Until recently, Paul was an active member of the Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS)- AAR2DV.
A lifelong active member of Carman United Methodist Church and the Rotterdam Lions Club, he served in many roles over the years. An honest man of utmost integrity, he instilled in his children the concept of love, duty and honor in family, faith, and service to others.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Bernice (Fancher) Andrews. He leaves behind his children, Linda (Ronald) Beckering of Northville, Keith (Cathy) Andrews of Broadalbin, Gail Andrews of Rotterdam, Jean (David) Schoonbeck of Rotterdam, Joneen (Mark) Mortensen of Mansfield, Mass., and Sherry (Robert) Macey of Clifton Park; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Eileen (Alvin) Herskovitz of Bradenton, Fla. Devoted husband, loving father, grandpa, and great-grandpa, and good and faithful servant. He will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Carman United Methodist Church, 2350 Hamburg St., Schenectady, with Rev. Kathleen Maker officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the church from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial with military honors will follow the service in Woodlawn Cemetery, Berne.
