Link to ARRL obit. Longtime ARRL staffer and Washington-area office chief Paul Rinaldo, W4RI, died Friday, November 29, at age 88. Paul was ARRL's first Chief Technology Officer, serving from 2004-2010 (despite what was stated in the ARRL article, he continued to serve as CTO after his retirement until the end of the term to which he was elected). Paul's contributions to amateur radio, notably including his pioneering work in packet radio, were numerous and will certainly be memorialized fully and eloquently by others. Celebration of life services are set for 11-noon on Monday, December 9, at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad St, Falls Church VA. A gathering follows at the funeral home from noon-2.
Sad news that Paul W4RI being SK. We met a few times in Geneva at CCIR Study Group conferences, in I believe, 1985, 88 and 91. He a was a gentleman and a mainstay as one of the prominent ARRL and IARU representatives in ITU Study Group 8 and other technical working groups. Remember having some late 80s correspondence with him about early advances in HF data communications. RIP Paul. 73/ Karl-Arne SM0AOM
