Thank you for organizing this. I have a lot of new hams in my club, and have let them know to take a look at this, so that they can get more comfortable getting on the air and understanding how things work.

Thanks for posting this - you didn't post a picture so I took the liberty and found one at the site and added it so I could then promote it to the QRZ home page - this needs to be seen!

    What a totally cool concept.

I will be promoting this in our May issue of The Logger's Bark magazine (which is in production and will publish on May 1).

These topics are for me not a beginners "boot camp". This is for advanced, who wants get into something new or refresh the knowings. Especially the emergency issue, to be in contact with official rescue units and so on, is a wide field.

Must be a language difference. But no, this program is largely "Demonstrations and tutorials".

It's very much a beginner's bootcamp program. And looks to be a good one, Cornelius! Consider signing up - it's open to all.

No affiliation - just looks like a good program to me

Dave, I never ment that this is not a good program. Whatever you saw in my sentences. It depends on how deep these programm will go into details.

Oh I forgot something Dave and please dont get me wrong again. In the topic of emergency communication we are at the same heights, when we talk about UTM coodinate maps without names, which are to read with a stencil. To be an assistant for the operation control or HQ in a catastrophic situation. Control units right from the distance, and have all well quoted. And to know what the people are doing, when they talk about what they are doing. Further pass clear and right order to the emergency task force, which you got from an executive by using the radio. Its nothing about transceivers or some special words. Transceivers are the tools, and language is for clear and short communication without questions. And amateur operators who are thinking that this is a cool job, they should stay away as far as they can.

Here in Germany the official units will give you an order when you can help as a private volunteer. Nobody is plucking them into the craft. Sometimes bigger clubs here think about to be a part of this. This is just a fantasy. The control is and stays always by the official executives and units. Its german law and nothing will change that here.

That was first the major point, when I thought about this by reading the plan of the course and especially this topic. To this I saw many people who had problems for to understand all this in different lessons. Its nothing in the theory, its a practical thing over a longer time. And all this is to do in a repeat, to have always the most in mind. And personaly I never saw a large-scale operation or a practice without faults. For me its long time ago, but nobody should think that this got easier over the times. The climate change and other things worsen it more and more since my time of duty.

We don't know where it's going, but we're going to hurry up anyway.

Disclaimer: I wish I had time right now to help, but I am oversusbscribed:-(

Here's the thing--if you ask new hams what's holding them up getting OTA--especially HF (such as 10m)-- they will almost always tell you the antenna is the problem.

Not building it; not buying it; but HIDING it.

Some new hams solve this by doing POTA-- a HUGE initiative and acitivity at moment-- others just mull how to move forward and drop out.

Placing emphasis on antennas--as much as FT8 for example--is really the key.

Anyway Anita, and Fred (AB1OC), among others, are doing a great job on this.

Not trying to sound negative I think it's a great idea.

I did a cursory review of the information some of the links etc. but could not find a reference to the FCC part 97 rules and regulations. How do you "operate" without them?

If I am not mistaken, this is not the first one of these Nashua "Boot Camps." I agree with Dave UUU and others -- great addition to what we need. But it made me wonder what happened to the old QSO Today Events . . . they were similar and very good but perhaps more aggressively tech-oriented (probably TOO much so). Dave, W7DGJ

Good initiative. Wonder whether it is open for the global audience? Looking at the timing, it will be from 7.30 pm to 3.30 am local time for us. Would love to participate for the initial few hours before it is time for sleep!

Best wishes for success of the program.

I've signed up for the bootcamp today and had no problems. When signing up for it, you can choose your country so I suppose it is open for the global audience.
