So in NY you must be some emergency services member to get a ham plate?
No, the DMV just puts us in that category which is probably why our plates are so cheap.
I've also heard that our ham plates allow us to be on the road during a snow emergency in NY, but I don't have confirmation on that.
Not true. New York State Ham radio registration plates do not come with any special immunities or privileges.
No! All you need to provide NYSDMV is a copy of your FCC amateur radio license to obtain the ham plates.
Well like I said, heard but not confirmed. Anyway doesn't matter, I wouldn't be out and about in a snow emergency in any case.
But it's cool that they're cheap although it did take NYS a long time to come up with the new design, at least they got it right.
You wouldn't like the prospect of driving on roads that are unplowed in which your chances of running off the road and into a ditch or another vehicle is quite high.
Absolutely agree, although that's more of an issue in the boonies and not so much here in the city where the roads (usually) get plowed quickly and there aren't too many ditches.
Anyway getting a bit off the topic so enough said-
