    NVIS is regional comms specifically for a near vertical take off angle using equipment designed specifically for that purpose. Labeling any which just happens to capture a short hop is not NVIS. It's a method not a result.

    The question was about stress due to having the whip bent over and tied off. Relieving THAT stress by introducing a spring was the entire purpose of my post.

    A better description would be "understood." The mechanics of that understanding is what came to drive the development of antenna systems specifically for taking advantage of steep takeoff angles specifically for regional comms. ie a NVIS system.

    Ah got it. Does your system rotate the upper whip while tuning?
