The IARU HF World Championship took place the second weekend of July. In this contest, every IARU member entity puts their headquarters station on the air, with each counting as a multiplier. Special rules allow for IARU member HQ stations to operate from multiple sites. The IARU Headquarters station NU1AW/0 did just that. Under the leadership of Ward Silver, N0AX, and with the technical expertise of Kyle Krieg, AA0Z, and Connor Dickey, KD9LSV, they put nine physical stations on the air. Kyle and Connor joined the Contest Crew to discuss how they accomplished this and how everything turned out. As a bonus, Kyle shared some additional ideas about the future of contesting. This was a fun one. Operating at N0AX is a top notch experience and I always enjoy it. Great station. Great ops. Great hospitality and teamwork. Thanks ! huge thanks also to Connor and Kyle for the technology. It worked very well.
Joe speaks the truth there. The operation was a total gas! Thanks to Connor and Kyle, the remote station integration was seamless. And the food was good, too! 73, Jim KK0U
It was the best integrated remote/distributed/multi-multi I have been a part of. Kudos to Ward, Connor, Kyle, all the ops who came to NØAX, and all the stations/operators who were in other places. And yes, the food was excellent! 73 - Mark N5OT
Certainly you're on to something. One of the Achilles' Heels of this kind of operation is logging software that can accommodate the kind of network Kyle and Connor had to build and we-all had to use, whether we were at the main station or one of the other ones not physically present. We all had to know who had worked what on which band, and conversely, who else needed the station we were currently working at that moment, only on another band. Oh, and mode. Of course we also needed to keep an eye on our running QSO and multiplier totals per band, overall totals, and score. I may be mistaken but Cloudlog does not look like it is designed for radio contests. Reading the link, it looks like the designer may not intend it for this kind of specialization. However the look is excellent and the fact that it is browser-based will be hugely valuable to an increasing number of users over time, for sure. Thanks for the link. We used N1MM+. N1MM+ delivered the goods at NØAX in July. 73 - Mark N5OT
