For those interested,I sent a balloon less than an hour ago into the sky with a CW beacon attached.
Last seen heading East climbing in altitude very slowly.
Frequency will drift to temperature changes.
    28.221.20 +/-
Hope some will get this message and hear it if near your location...or propagation ?
Traveling East from Hilton,NY heading towards Rochester,NY presently.
CW is my call...etc with 10 second pause.
    Still heard here @ S-6

Posting was quite late ,but still worth listening for those interested.
Last known frequency was 28.220.8 mhz CW.

Whereabouts and survival of this balloon unknown, but should have enough power to run for days.

    Jim,
Thanks for the reply.Never really sure about these balloons since they were just a bunch tied to a small transmitter.Could be many miles away or only 20 miles away.Could even still be floating in the air now for all anyone knows.
The battery power was excessive, and with the solar cell,it could run days or weeks if it lands oriented well (tree).
My guess it had traveled the same path as route 104 according to winds and a visual, but turbulence was evident in how the transmitter was behaving by design.
So it may have well made some considerable altitudes.
All in all, very funny and fun experiment.

    Heard in FN23ea :)

just above the noise but there nevertheless!

looks to be hanging out around 28.220.68 or so but I can hear YM7KK's beacon fairly strong near it so I can't get a good recording of yours.

I appreciate both of you guys listening in.All for fun and curiosity on where it would have landed or how far.
No VVV in the string though,it just repeats N2NXZ/BLN/8 every 10 seconds.
28.220.68 sounds about right where it was last heard here after an hour into flight.
Maybe another operator will hear it someday if it hangs in a nearby tree?
Looking forward to sending a few more.I will post them on QRZ ahead of time though.
YM7KK is always heard early here too, using web tuners today but no luck for me.

    Jim,
If you can hear the signal,it could have fallen near you?
If the sun gets to the solar cell without snow cover, maybe you will hear it in the days ahead.

I s'pose it's possible! Though I am up on a substantial hill and have a pretty open line of sight in just about all directions so you never know (I can see the steam from the Nine Mile nuclear plant from my front window when it's clear out)... I have been able to bring up a couple of the repeaters in Rochester from here hehe

Pretty cool.Nice location with higher elevation.
Will let you know when the next is going up in advance.
Been checking the remote tuners for the signal, but like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Here is a capture of what the beacon string would look like should you hear it sometime.
Another beacon is seen just above mine.

Unless its someone else. My Morse isn't great yet, but it keeps repeating.

Received and email from a French station claiming to be hearing it.
It is hard to grab since it is in the beacon portion of the band where there are dozens of others.
Just like the above capture image. It sends that string every 10 seconds.Frequency could shift with temperatures especially if covered in snow in a tree.
