KB1FWN writes "Have any of you heard of PSK31? It is just like RTTY, but better! All you need to operate this great mode is a 100 MHz pentium computer, PSK31 software (which is free), and an HF SSB radio. Where do I find the software? It is avaliable FREE on the web. You can download DIGIPAN, the most popular PSK31 software, from the DigiPan Homepage.

What is so special about PSK31? Well, it has a very narrow bandwith. It is only about 50 Hz. Because of this, many signals can
fit in a crowded band. PSK31 can also provide good copy under very
poor condiions. You do not need high power or big antennas to enjoy
PSK31 contacts. QSO's at under 5 Whatts or less is very, very common.

However, there is one thing that PSK31 does not have. It does not
have built in error correction, like PACTOR, or some of the other
digital modes. But, as long as you can spell remotely well, you'll
    be understood.

What about DX? Of course! I left out the best part! Many countries
are now active on PSK31! The recent D68C DXpedition to the Comoros
was very active on this new mode. In addition to all this, PSK31
contacts count for the RTTY DXCC award!

PSK31 is a great new way to operate, and if you are interested, you
can learn more about it at the D.A.R.C Homepage. If you do get active on it, I hope to speak to you.
