Wowzers, I really like the looks of that radio, and I was pretty excited for it...now, my interest has dropped off. That price is out of this world!

 

DX Engineering also taking preorders. Glad to see this will have APRS via a firmware upgrade. That was always an advantage of the Kenwood D710 over other radios. Not sure if Kenwood will ever release the D750A

Is this the top secret radio that Icom has been talking about all year? If so, no thanks. I'm not paying a grand for a VHF/UHF radio.

 

Why in the world would you need a waterfall display for 2 M and 70 CM ?

 

No. The X-026 is a different thing. That was the basic black box at Dayton. This radio was working at Dayton.

Nope. I could spend a grand on a 2/70 fm rig. Easily. The reason I could is that I wouldn’t. If Icom, Kenwood, Yaesu thinks it is okay to ask a grand for such a box of extraneous gizwidgetry, they best be okay with being told to sod off.

 

Wow. They are around $750 overseas right now. Are they blaming tariffs for the jump?

 

Wow, that is expensive for that radios feature set for sure. I always figured this price point is where the new Kenwood would end up at launch and then settle around $799 but that radio will have a lot more features than this one. Neither will sell a lot of these at this price.

 

Nice looking radio for sure.
My issues with Icom are:
1. Set a frequency up in the VFO, set a PL tone. I change the frequency and the PL settings go away. What ?? This has been a thing with Icoms for way too long.
That sucks when you are on a local repeater with PL, then want to spin over to another that uses the same PL You have to reset the PL settings. Very annoying.
2. When I turn the radio on, then kill power to it by either turning off the power supply or shutting off the car, the radio doesn't turn itself back on. They don't remember their previous power state.
Other radio mfg's do this.

I do like Icom's transmit audio! They sound excellent on the air.
I also like they use RJ45's for the mic cord. Hand when at home, I can unsnap the coil cord and use a flat CAT5 cable.

 

My thought exactly.
Twice the price of the 5100.
Definitely not worth it to me.
But I’m sure people with money to burn before they croak will buy it.
