I'm sure he meant Discord: https://discord.com/ While I use it a little bit I intensely dislike Discord, nor would I use anything on any platform that spelled "ham" in all caps. But that's me.
I have never been on it and I don’t ever plan to. I have no desire to be one of the “cool kids”. I have no problem acting my age…but that’s me
Hey N7JTT: I noticed the invite link expired, would you mind posting a new one for those of us who are...less grumpy around here?
You can make the invite link not expire, its towards the bottom of the invite link page... Very cool program, as you can use video and share your screen, can be a very useful program for education. You can get help or assist in real time, not needing to upload a picture to QRZ and get mostly off topic cheeky remarks.
I made one awhile back, but never published it anywhere, so there is no members. I will give OP time to reply before I post my link. It can be a very useful tool, and its fun too. A local ham club uses Zoom every month, I like this better.
Discord is like Zoom, it has text, voice, video, screen share, post photos. Originally it was geared towards online gaming, now its a little of everything... You can use the web client https://discord.com/ and you can download an app on your phone or PC. It would be a great place if you and a few friends want to troubleshoot a problem in real time, QRZ is great, but the ability to talk to someone and get a direct response would be better in my opinion.
I am a member of the Peoria, IL, Peoria Area Amateur Radio Club. They have a very active Discord Channel, if you will. They have been trying to get me on it for a long time lol...But I am a stubborn, old school Old Man....I love the simplicity of QRZed, and I love to talk to people amateur radio voice modes....I have been on QRZed since 2008, and it does everything I need. If someone desires to use Discord, use it to your heart’s content and enjoy....I just happen to be a Grumpy, Old School, Old Timer.
It’s slower than molasses on the web client (for me anyway) and I hate typing on my phone. My iPad might be a compromise but the more I’ve tried to use Discord in the past the more I came to utterly loathe, despise, and detest it.
I only use the PC app [Linux] and it runs smooth, most of the time I use it for voice, I use the text for posting a link, or leaving a quick message to someone who is not online, I don't like texting even on the keyboard.. One of the servers I am on, the owner / admin, has live streamed demonstrating some soldering stuff using a hot air station repairing his radio, and other techie stuff, for me it really helps out since I can ask questions.
