Hey all. My name is John Steensen. I am a newbie to HAM, and will be testing for tech and general next month up in Tucson. (It's a drive, so figure I'll knock out two birds with one stone.)

My primary interest is Mobile HF operations - I have a long commute, and figured HAM could spice things up a little - I am planning an IC-7000 with a Larsen NMO 2/70B Antenna for VHF/UHF. Now, here is where I get funny - I can't decide between the Hi-Q Antennas, Scorpions or Tarheels. I'm designing a good mounting bracket for the rear quarterpanel on my Blazer ZR2 that should be able to easily handle the weight of even the scorpion. (.375" A36 Steel flat, with a 4"x4"x.375 square tube supporting a 4x4x.375 angle iron, all welded together.)

    What do y'all recommend?

This is a technical question, and should be in the other Mobile forum.

That said, everything you need to know to get started is on my web site.

Alan, I have been studying your site - but I also like to get more than just one man's opinion. :D (No offense intended at all. I deeply appreciate what you have made available). Sometimes the most can be learned from dissenting opinions.

I apologize, I didn't realize this wasn't the place for technical discussion. I'll repost somewhere technical.
