It means you've got better skills than FT8. Screw robots. Good for you.
I changed the S-meter bias on my R-4C so everyone is 599, so I can pretend I'm like the contesters in the magazines with their wicked-good ears.

Thanks for your great writing in CQ and your GROL License manual work.

You are holding it wrong. Steve said so.

    Is your receiver upside down?

The answer ain't to start collecting stamps. It is to get on the air. You never know...

Thursday night, for example, 10 was wide open well, well, after sunset. Our local 10-meter net usually ain't much different from 2-meters these days, just a bunch of local hams having fun. Thursday night, we took checkins from all over the east and midwest.

It also depends on your goals. In the mornings here, for example, I'm not out to work a bunch of DX; just to have a nice CW ragchew on 40. I can always find plenty of stations to work with 50-watts and my tube gear. :)

So, don't despair; turn on the receiver! :p

Buy a Flex their S-meter reads S-4 on a dummy load.

That's incorrect. Levels below S1 must be given in dB.

If you are a hip and cool ham you will say, "Levels below S1 must be given in dog biscuits."

It's so bad in Fairbanks, that S-1 is the loneliest number...

And there are copious 3 Dog Nights during your average winter in Fairbanks!
