Was looking at the MFJ book, and noticed thier "Pocket roll up" antennas. I really like the idea of a small antenna that had extreme portability. $29.99 is a bit steep for a pocket full of coax and a connector however. I'm thinking I could build one myself for a whole lot less wampum, that's better quality than the one you'd buy.

Anyone have any ideas for me? I want something for 70cm (440), that I could cram in a pocket of a backpack, or duffle bag, or that would fit under the backseat in my truck.

http://www.hamuniverse.com/slimjim.html is basically the same thing.

The article doesn't give dimensions for 70cm, but if you divide the 2m dimensions by 3 you shouldn't be far out.

Despite the claims, these things don't have very much gain over a vertical dipole or 5/8 wave antenna.
