Can someone recommend some books, websites, etc, that would give me the basic information to get started with Echolink? Our club has an Echolink set up on the club repeater. All I need to do is to get up to speed with how I can join in. I would appreciate all the help you guys can give me.

    Thanks

    Did you look here? http://www.echolink.org/
I had the same issue with IRLP until I found a Yahoo Group that gave me some answers. Going to try Echolink soon.

Not sure what you want to do. @KG5UMH posted a good place to start.

I would recommend a Pi3 Version B. It will give you Allstar, Echolink and remote node too.

One thing to do, Is to make sure your ISP supports UDP port forwarding that Echolink uses.

It is sad that W1CDM is a silent key. :( He helped a lot of people get started with Echolink.

    Have fun. :)

OK. I've downloaded the software and I'm trying to do the setup wizard. I connect fine, but I fail the UDP 5198 and 5199 tests #1 and succeed on tests #2, but the end result is that I failed the firewall test. Can someone explain to me what that means and what I can do to fix the problem? Is this a common problem or have I got a major issue on my hands?

    Thanks

You can ask your questions to Loren KC9ZHV. She owns repeaters with echolink and Allstar nodes. She will know the answer. She has lots of information on her bio page. https://www.qrz.com/db/KC9ZHV

Your ISP is not allowing those UDP ports to be open. You can port forward them in your router, If it allows.

    Good Luck.

I had this problem because I am using the ATT hot spot on the phone for Internet access. One quick and easy thing you can do is go to tools, setup and select a public proxy. This should clear up your issues and allow you to use echolink. The echolink phone app may be a better solution if you have firewall/router blocks plus you can use echolink where ever you go.

You must allow ports udp/5198 and udp/5199 to the PC running EchoLink. If you don't know how, or are unable to do so, you must use a Relay or Public Proxy.

Are you using space bar PTT ?

Echolink needs to be the active window for it to transmit.
